After years of failing, two of Lansing's three high schools - Everett and Sexton - achieved adequate yearly progress under No Child Left Behind rules.
Statewide, 86 percent of Michigan public schools and 99 percent of school districts with kindergarten through 12th graders made adequate yearly progress on report cards released this morning by the Michigan Department of Education.
The report cards give letter grades to each school building and give districts a pass or fail. As a district, Lansing made adequate yearly progress and 31 of its 33 buildings passed. Eastern High School and Riddle Elementary School did not meet goals.
Lansing superintendent T.C. Wallace Jr. called the results "nearly perfect" and said they're a "huge benchmark and tremendous accomplishment for staff, students and families."
